O’s Notes: Bassist Hugh Hopper is the leader/producer but this is a true collaboration with Simon Picard (sax), Steve Franklin (keyboards) and Charles Hayward (d). They wrote all eleven tunes and they share the spotlight during the performance. “On The Spot” feels like the soundtrack for a suspense or horror movie. The moods change through the set pushing us in different directions. Hopper’s team is never bashful, always outspoken and in your face. The liner notes suggest they are charting new territory and we fully agree with that however the space is not too scary but you’ve got to read the map.
