O’s Notes: Pianist Mark Levine pays homage to the great Brazilian songwriter Moacir Santos, perhaps the most underappreciated Brazilian composer. Mark had the pleasure of performing with Santos during the late 1960s where he gained an appreciation while learning a lot at the same time. He performs Moacir’s work here in it’s native splendor with the help of Mary Fettig (fl), Michael Spiro (perc), Paul van Wageningen (d) and John Witala (b). We feel the vibe on the title track that extends all the way to the calypso groove of “A Soudade Mata A Gente”.
