O’s Notes: Bebop pianist Rick Germanson has played with many top jazz musicians and leads a trio for Off The Cuff, a combination of cooking, cool and warm selections. Gerald Cannon (b) and Louis Hayes (d) provide strong support. Rick’s program includes ten selections that alternate between slow and fast tempos keeping listeners fully engaged. They play a spirited arrangement of “This Time The Dream’s On Me” that contrasts with their tribute to the late Freddie Hubbard, “Up Jumped Spring”, a soothing ballad. We enjoyed all of the tracks especially “Wives and Lovers” and the hot opener, “Quagmire”.
