O’s Notes: Chet is equally adept at crooning and playing his trumpet. While many didn’t recognize him as a premier singer, we’d suggest they listen to Baker sing and scat on what became his signature vocal piece “My Funny Valentine”. But few could argue about his brass mastery. His trumpet melodies were buttery smooth notably here on “Once Upon A Summertime”. We also dig the cool swinging character of “Love For Sale” There are six songs included in this session. It was recorded in Germany during 1978, an example of some of Chet’s best work late in his career.
