O’s Notes: Vince Bell is a songwriter with a wealth of material. Ojo is spoken word, a concept album that has bits of free jazz, pop, country and flamenco. There is a large cast of musicians appearing in several band configurations. David Mansfield (various stringed instruments), Satoshi Takeishi (d), Pedro Cortes (g) and Rob Schwimmer (p, continuum) lead the way. The lyrics are good stories bathed in the myriad of genres. “If You Walk Away” features guest country vocalist Laura Cantrell harmonizing with Bell. “Gypsy” is true to its title starring Cortes. We also enjoyed the title track and “Nothing At All”.
