O’s Notes: Israeli Yair Loewenson is proficient as a bassist and guitarist but chooses the latter as the focal point on Old Bottles New Wine his latest release. The band is Yair’s trio plus featured artist Mark Turner on tenor sax. All of the music was composed by Loewenson except “Tension and Release” by drummer Noam Israeli. Gal Shaya plays bass. The music is mostly bebop with some modern jazz, jazz-fusion and blues as well. Among the best tunes are “Catch Him”, “Davka”, “No Bop” and the mixed tempos of “Cul de Sac”. This is an enjoyable set.
