O’s Notes: Count Basie (p) is undoubtedly one of the swingingest bandleaders ever and this collection is packed with jumping songs. Basie was a magnet for talent. Lester Young (sax), Harry “Sweets” Edison (t), Buck Clayton (t), Helen Humes (v), Billie Holiday (v) and Jimmy Rushing (v) were some of the stars he played with. You will hear many of those associations here. The groove is popping as is always was with the Count in the room.
