O’s Notes: Leader and bassist Eric Martin resurrected the Fusion band Upright after seven years! Eric composed each of the eight songs to maximize the strengths of the musicians. There are a lot of synchronized syncopated lines that require close coordination. We particularly liked “Le Grand” for it’s changes in pace and tight lines and the subtle Latin feel of “Some Food”. The band is up to the task. Opinion is a worthy effort and one that we hope is followed up before another seven years!
