O’s Notes: Pianist Mina Cho leads her band through nine originals that include elements of Latin, jazz and classical music resulting in a peaceful jazzy session. The band ranges from two to five members including Sam J.C. Lee (b), Andrew Halchak (sax), Mario Rodriguez (d, perc) and Shu Odamura (g). “White Lion” in 5/4 is one of the best tunes featuring Cho dashing across the keys with poise amidst a mellow backdrop. The upbeat spirit of “A Shy Angel, Cheynne” transitions to a peaceful waltz then back to the playful funky beat. That one was written for her dog that has quite a character! Odamura opens “originality” with a Spanish guitar solo and the rest of the band joins in to give us a strong taste of South American music. We also enjoyed the playful spirit of “I Like A Turtle” in a strong set.
