O’s Notes: Overlook is the latest release for contemporary jazz pianist Ben Clifton. Vocalist Nicoya Polar is expressive on “Shadows”. “Serenity,” a reflective piece featuring vibraphonist Jalen Baker, illustrates a contemporary jazz mood. The gentle interplay between piano and vibes shows Clifton’s poise in his debut. The rest of the set is instrumental with elements of jazz, gospel and R&B that comes together nicely for a fresh session.
