O’s Notes: They open with the spirited “Chrimbolos” a 34 second introduction to sixteen songs, all composed by Otero. They effectively bring the traditional music of Argentina into the 21st century on a jazz-fusion tip. Otero plays piano and extracts character with Nick Danielson (violin), Inbal Segev (cello), Pedro Giraudo (b) and most importantly Hector Del Curto (bandoneon). The tempo slows down on the title track but not the emotion and drama. We preferred the furious pace to the ballads but found this session to contain all of the drama and dynamics associated with a tango notably on “Ausencias” and “El Momento”.
