O’s Notes: Panama Suite was recorded in 2006 at Berklee. Perez directs a big band including some vocals and a lively brass section. The program contains three original compositions that combine Latin, urban and big band. Our only disappointment was the brevity: only ~15 minutes. But this is an engaging endeavor none-the-less, especially “The Awakening”.
