O’s Notes: Cook leads his trio from behind the piano where he provides the glue and spirit for the music. Matt Clohesy (b) and Mark Ferber (d) are his very capable compatriots. We engaged from the opener “The Thing”, a heavily syncopated number with a lot of energy. They are pushing the envelope and are tight knit. David wrote all of the music, mostly up tempo until “Robin’s Song”, the first of a few ballads including Ellington’s classic “Come Sunday”. They return to the heat on the title track before concluding with a peaceful “Lullabye”.
