O’s Notes: Saxophonist and composer Kyle Nasser is Massachusetts bred and educated (Berklee and Harvard) but now lighting up the New York jazz scene.“Persistent Fancy“expands on Nasser’s debut (Restive Soul) with the addition of synth to pianist Dov Manski’s arsenal and some counter current from alto saxophonist Roman Filiu. Jeff Miles (g), Nick Jost (b) and Allan Mednard (d) round out the band. We liked the gentle transitions between Kyle and Dov (p) on “The Ascent of Henry Monmouth”, the heavy syncopation on “3-Way”, and the moving title track.
