O’s Notes: Canadian trumpeter and singer Johnny Summers has a low key, well-articulated voice that is easy on the ears. His main accompaniment on this release is pianist Chris Andrew who carries the rhythms very well. Guest artists sprinkle love from time to time and of course Johnny plays his horn to add another voice. The titles are all covers including pop, R&B, Country Western and jazz classics mirroring Summers’ love for all great music. His arrangements and delivery are all consistent but not monotonous. Theses are soft romantic ballads with a jazzy blues feel: swinging on “Exactly Like You” a duet with Johanna Sillanpaa and soulful on “You Don’t Know Me”. Summers continues to learn and impress with Piano Sessions, evidence of hot jazz percolating north of the border!
