O’s Notes: This duo, Melvoin on piano and Jaffe with spoken word provide and interesting change of pace. The music is like a vamp with the lyrics speaking of jazz history mostly from Jaffe’s Playing The Word, a series of jazz poems. Among the best is “Starting With Langston”. The deep gruff tone of Dan’s voice against the soft piano notes had a lot of contrast and provided character for the set.
