O’s Notes: Scottish trumpeter, Malcolm Strachan presents his sophomore album, Point Of No Return, a set of seven engaging originals. He gets support from Atholl Ransome (t-sax, fl), George Cooper (p), Danny Barley (tb), Courtny Tomas, (b), and Erroll Rollins (d). Special guest, vocalist Jo Harrop contributes filler voicing on two selections, and Richard Curran adds strings on three selections. The primary story here is Strachan’s trumpet or flugelhorn. We’ll take either because Malcolm makes both work well! We bill it as fusion, but the straight-ahead set will also find it embraceable.
