O’s Notes: Pianist Steve Kuhn has a wealth of experiences having played with several jazz legends. It comes through in his composure. The notes flow nicely to blend with the other instruments. On Promises Kept, those other instruments are a luscious string section and an upright bass played by David Finck. The musical selections, all written by Kuhn, are half old, half-new. The older songs take on new life in this setting. It is a very rich and peaceful session. Recording engineer Gary Chester does an excellent job capturing the warm tones to further your listening pleasure.
