O’s Notes: Bassist Alexis Cuadrado leads a quartet with Loren Stilman (sax), Brad Shepik (g) and Mark Ferber (d). Guest artists Alan Ferber (tb) and Pete Rende (organ) join for 3 and 1 song(s) respectively. These musicians have played together around the New York City jazz scene in various configurations and they form a tight unit. Puzzles serves as Cuadrado’s chance to lead a session of tunes that he arranged and composed. The program consists of nine light fusion songs with darker shades. We liked the more upbeat tunes “East 10th Shuffle”, “Abstract Rhythm” and “Tango” which really swings.
