O’s Notes: Formed in 1966 and led by Roscoe Mitchell (sax), the band has been focused on delivering the Black music experience. It stretches from the fields of slavery through blues and jazz improvisation including Avant Garde. The other core members are Lester Bowie (t), Joseph Jarman (sax), Malachi Favors Maghoustus (b) and Famoudou Don Moye (d). The music collected for this CD is representative of their work between 1978 and 1997 and is as varied as their charter. Although Bowie died in 1999, the group persists today along the same lines.
