O’s Notes: Hill (sax) leads a quartet featuring Paul Pieper (g), Jerry Jones (d) and John Ozment (Hammond). They open burning with both Paul and John making statements. And Hill is quick to remind us that he’s in charge taking the melody with strong punctuation. Buck is well known in D.C. jazz circles as he has only toured on rare occasions. He is also well known among jazz artists. But after listening to Relax, we can see why people remember him! He has a groove that reminded us of Turrentine on the title track. The program is divided between standards and originals, eight tracks in all that fit together very well.
