O’s Notes: This is a fusion blues collective led by trumpeter Carol Morgan. She gets support from a strong team if musicians including guitarists Mike Stern and Chris Cortez, Lincoln Goines (b) and Jeff Sipe (d). They cook on “Stern Language” (written by Cortez and performed by Stern) and then simmer on “Melody’s Milieu”, one of four Morgan compositions. Carol’s warm tones are a welcomed complement to the fusion and perfect for the ballads. Retroactive is well-recorded world-class jazz-fusion!
