O’s Notes: We were half way into the first track, “Lester Leaps In” and we knew we were on to something special. The Reunion is about Larry getting back together with the musicians he loves and respects, notably vocalese master, Jon Hendricks and his Young At Heart ensemble. The brass blending is exceptional with Noel Jewkes (sax, cl, fl), Jules Broussard (sax) and Allen Smith (t). They also master the Latin feel on “Serbo Salsa”. Jon Hendricks is in great form and is featured on six of the 14 songs, notably “Tickle Toes” and “Shorty Indigo”. Leader pianist Vuckovich does an excellent job providing the glue for a session of classic joyful jazz.
