O’s Notes: Trombonist Curtis Fowlkes leads the Jazz Passengers, a group blending hard bop with vocals and creative liberty. “Button Up” is our favorite track with nice vocal harmonies and an infectious rhythm. It is in contrast to their unusual transformation of “Reunited” casting the tune in a very different light. We enjoyed “Tell Me” and “Spanish Harlem” with nice work on vibes by Bill Ware and vocal from Susi Hyldgaard and Curtis Fowlkes. Roy Nathanson (sax and vocals) and Fowlkes continue to expand their groove with yet another colorful work.
