O’s Notes: Trumpeter Christian Scott is a man to be reckoned with! Whether he’s playing warm ballads like “Rejection” or upbeat funky fusion like “Lay In Vein” the music resonates in a sweet spot. In addition to playing his horn, Scott also composed most of the tunes on Rewind That. There is a modern arrangement of “So What” that smokes! His band includes guitarist Matt Stevens, Walter Smith III on tenor sax, Zaccai Curtis on the Fender Rhodes, Luques Curtis on bass and drummer Thomas Pridgen. Christian’s uncle, Donald Harrison (alto sax) also appears on a few tracks. While we classify it as fusion, it will appeal to listeners on the bebop side as well. Collectively this one is appropriately titled. We will rewind it many times.
