O’s Notes: Young trumpeter and composer Ian Carey assembled a team with five ambitious musicians to record Roads & Codes. They swing, play some fusion, a little bop and some free form improvisation, nine songs in all. Carey attempts to appeal to a broad audience and his approach finds good tunes in a lot of genres vs. delighting one sector. Best bets: “Rain Tune” and “The Thread”.
