O’s Notes: The place is The Netherlands. The band is a trio with the late bassist Rudd Jacobs, drummer Han Bennington and featured tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins. The time is 1967, during Rollins’ 6-year hiatus from recording. These previously unreleased sessions are mostly live, improvisational performances that include generous solos from each of the musicians. It’s great to hear Sonny during this period, in fine form! The accompanying 100-page booklets has extensive liner notes, photos and retrospective interviews with each player. This 2-disc set is a must have for Rollins fans and jazz lovers as well.
