O’s Notes: Bassist Jakob Dreyer assembles a new quartet with Tivon Pennicott (t -sax), Sasha Berliner (vibes), and Kenneth Salters (drums). Sasha’s work gives Roots and Things fresh coloration especially on tunes like “Follower”. Jason gets into the groove on “Constellation” with a strong solo behind Pennicott who leads most of the melodies. There are several brief, swinging interludes that provide cohesion for the songs. We also enjoyed Salters work on “Fight Or Flights”. Everything gels nicely here on Dryer’s third release, truly a charm!
