O’s Notes: Ray is a swinging crooner with a style that is perfectly suitable for his Salute to The Great Entertainers. The operative word is entertained and Gelato brings the requisite passion to the stage. He opens with Fats Waller’s “The Joint is Jumping'” and he keeps it hopping with “The Jumpin’ Jive” and “Your Feets Too Big”. They swing on “Rags To Riches” and play a pulsating vamp on “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams”. Ray also leads a strong band playing a robust tenor sax notably on “Stardust”. The performance is good owing to Ray and his supporting musicians who unfortunately are not listed in the liner notes.
