O’s Notes: Bassist and producer Marcos Varela assembles a fine team of musicians anchored by pianist George Cables and drummer Billy Hart. There are several guest artists including Logan Richardson on alto sax, Clifton Anderson (tb) and Dana Stephens on tenor sax. The music is all originals written by band members except “I Should Care” arranged by Cables. The wide variety keeps things interesting for a good session of modern jazz.
