O’s Notes: Sara Schoenbeck is a classically trained bassoonist who found her passion in experimental jazz. She combines influences from many different genres to explore freedom and her inner expressions. The mood is dark as Sara illustrates a slow, mysterious journey through lands unknown. There’s a glimmer of moonlight on “Lullaby” featuring Nils Cline (g, b). We also enjoyed “Suspend A Bridge” featuring Peggy Lee (cello), “Chordata” featuring Roscoe Mitchell (s-sax) and “Absence” with Mark Dresser (b). These collaborations give her music more depth and dimension.
