O’s Notes: Guitarist and composer Alex Goodman is back with his“Second Act, a modern jazz set featuring his quintet with Matt Martinez (sax), Eden Laden (p), Rick Rosato (b) and Jimmy MacBride (d). Goodman’s guitar melodies are very relaxed and flowing especially on tunes like “Sharon” and “Empty”.“Felicity Williams and Alex Samaras add voice on several selections notably “Heightened” and “Losing Cool”. The vocals are actually more like an echo of the sax and guitar that add depth to the selections. Alex maintains a good balance of explosive energy and warm passion for his sophomore CD, another winner.
