O’s Notes: Norwegian jazz pianist, composer Tord Gustavsen leads a trio with Steinar Raknes (b) and Jarle Vespestad (d) for his new release Seeing. Gustavsen’s music is introspective, dark, and reflective, preferring a concentrated, minimalist approach to blazing gymnastics. The results are magnetic music that is meaningful and easily absorbed. “Extended Circle”, “Beneath Your Wisdom”, and “Seattle Song” are highlights.
