O’s Notes: Kate has a deep voice that is soft and gentle enough to lure you into her space. She takes us through a dozen standards done her way; that’s relaxed and warm. The cool bossa nova beats of “Quiet Storm” and “Dreamer” sooth us. Her team of musicians is strong especially guitarist Ron Eschete. Reid romances us on “In A Sentimental Mood” featuring Steve Reid ‘s trumpet solo and “Too Late Now” including a bass solo from Chris Conner. Ernie Watts adds sax to “The Face I Love” to conclude a very nice set. The approach is minimal but with just enough pizzazz to allow you to fully enjoy the music.
