O’s Notes: Guitarist Reg Schwager and saxophonist Ryan Oliver combine forces on Senza Resa, with Nick Peck (keys), Rene Worst (b) and Ernesto Cervini (d). We liked the Peck’s work on the Rhodes on “Rushbrooke” with the leaders handling the primary melody. Ryan swings hard on “The Orient”, and Reg simmers on “Tender Love”, and explodes on “Blues For Josie Rose”. Not to be left out, Cervini provides a rousing drum solo on “4JT”. The Schwager/Oliver Quintet is a powerful presentation of Canadian jazz.
