O’s Notes: Guitarist Andrew Diruzza assembles a fine quintet for Shapes and Analogies, a mild contemporary jazz-fusion album that we found pleasing. Robert Espe (sax), Michael Jarvey why (keys), Blake Shaw (b) and Marcelo Cardoso (d) join Diruzza for an integrated exchange. The music is all original with titles that suggest the nature of the groove. Many songs have threads of popular tunes that Andrew grew up with but they are all transformed in his current state of mind. “Balloon Animals” and “Barcode” are standouts.
