O’s Notes: Swedish bassist, composer Thommy Andersson leads a drummerless trio with Kirk Knuffke (cornet) and Jose Davila (helicon, tuba, didgeridoo, euphorium, and bass flute). Shimmering Blue, is Andersson’s debut as a leader on SteepleChase, a unique and interesting configuration that is impressive and approachable. We liked “Tundra Song”, “Invisible Suite”, “Chicken Run”, “Rumbeling”, and the title track in a set with varied moods and tempos.
