O’s Notes: Drummer & composer Tony Moreno leads quintet with Marc Mommas (sax), Ron Horton (t), Jean-Michel Pilc (p) and Ugonna Okegwo (b). They perform fifteen selections, mostly originals over two discs. They pick up the pace on the popping “55 Scotch” and the free spirited “Groveling”. We preferred the ultra mellow selections like “C-Jam Blues” and “El Rey”. Moreno does a good job with this series of enticing“Short Stories.
