O’s Notes: From the liner notes, “Chet lived hard and he played hard.” This comes through in his live performances, he gives 110% every night. But Chet is not limited to bebop, he’s equally capable performing ballads, alternating between crooning, scatting and blowing an ever so mellow trumpet. There are over 51 minutes of music in four compositions for this one of many session he played at San Francisco’s Keystone Korner. The band includes Phil Markowitz (p), Jon Burr (b), Roger Rosenberg (sax), Jeff Billinger (d) and an unnamed guest on tenor sax. It’s West Coast cool jazz.
