O’s Notes: Craig (sax, cl) leads a swinging octet that includes Dan Barnett (tb), Karen Hammack (p) and Lee Thornburg (t). They play a dozen songs, mostly instrumental pop covers and a couple of originals. They open with “Roll Over Redmond” with Craig leading the charge before a generous set of solos. The brass harmonies are tight but solos are somewhat sterile. But collectively the band swings regardless of the pace. Our favorites are “Creepin'”, “Oh Happy Day” and the warm tones of “Window Of The World”.
