O’s Notes: The beauty of an orchestra with lush strings is irreplaceable and conductor John Clayton is among the best in coaxing that beauty out of The Metropole Orchestra. The dynamics on the title track are fabulous. And the music serves as a perfect backdrop for vocalist Tom Lellis in his first recording with a large ensemble. Lellis shines on his own compositions as well as some modern jazz standards that he wrote the lyrics for. Hi daring approach pays off for listeners in arrangements of “Tell Me A Bedroom Story” and “Straight Up and Down”. This album could be classified as easy listening, Latin or big band. We classify it as good modern jazz vocals.
