O’s Notes: Songs For You combines 1978’s A Song For You and Parfait (1980). The first album includes Kenny Baron (p), Jack DeJohnette (d) and Ralph MacDonald (percussion). These are a cool collection of ballads like the title track and “El Ojo de Dios”. Parfait is a swinging set that features Carter in prime form on his piccolo bass. He plays the lead lines from the lower register and does it with style. The support comes from Ted Lo (p), Leon Maleson (b) and Wilby Fletcher (d). Our favorites here are “Receipt, Please”, “Round Midnight” and “Blues for D. P.”
