O’s Notes: This is a fresh set of ten contemporary jazz jams featuring Rangell on tenor and soprano sax. They open with “Free As The Wind” including Chuck Loeb with a rousing guitar solo. This Joe Sample cut is upbeat and engaging setting the pace for a winning session. They get funky on “City Lights” before freshening up on “Vonetta” with Nelson switching to flute and featuring Earl Klugh on guitar. Other notable songs are “Mean Business”, “Send One For Your Love” with Rangell again softening the attack using his flute and a cool arrangement of Dizzy’s “A Night In Tunisia”. It’s a winner.
