O’s Notes: The trio is Scott White (b, percussion), Miles Black (p) and leader Roger Baird (d). They play nine original abstract tunes. The random nature of “At The Movies” is representative of the character of the CD. The musicians each approach the theme independently but don’t get in each other’s way. This makes it easy to latch on to any of them along the journey. The sound quality is exceptional as we are able to discern all of the nuances and assorted sounds introduced by White as well as the true timber of Roger’s cymbals. Collectively this is one of the more enjoyable free jazz sessions that we’ve heard in a while!
