O’s Notes: The African Rhythms Quartet is Alex Blake (b), Benny Powell (tb), Talib Kibwe (as, fl), Neil Clarke (percussion) and Weston on piano. Vocals come from either the Gnawa Musicians of Marrakech or Tanger. While you may not be able to understand the African language, you will comprehend the message. This live recording was done at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church in Brooklyn in the Fall of 1999. The setting was appropriate for the message that was delivered from the music: healing the soul. They take a simple approach with African beats that help us to reflect and if so desired, to meditate and allow The Power of Music to take over. By the second song, the audience was fully engaged!
