O’s Notes: Bassist Haines leads a quintet with Rob Smith (t), David Lown (sax), Chip Crawford (p) and veteran drummer Jimmy Cobb. Thomas Taylor plays drums on tracks 1 and 7. Lown is wailing on the opener, “Freightrain” setting the stage for a rousing set. They settle down on “Rendezvous”, a mellow tune. It is a club setting that is easy to engage. Haines wrote all of the music except Cobb’s “Composition 101” a swinger and fitting finish on a fresh session.
