O’s Notes: Veteran smooth jazz saxophonist Richard Elliot leads the charge on Straight Up Down, his latest release. He plays in multiple configurations with all-star producers Paul Brown (g, perc), Steven EUGEne GROoVe, and Kevin Flournoy and their associated rhythm sections. Elliot is passionate, wailing on “Driftin’” & “Freestyle”, cruising on the title track, and seducing us on the classic, “Tell Me” including Phil Perry and Shannon Pearson singing in the background. This is a polished performance.
