O’s Notes: Sax man Jim Snidero takes a shot at composing jazz with an integrated and pronounced string section. The results are this statement, Strings, sometimes tranquil but always warm and flowing like on “On The Bank” and then grooving as on “Slipping Away” and “Ventura”. Snidero takes control of the melody on “Theme For Ernie” a romantic ballad. Pianist Renee Rosnes, Paul Gill (b) and Billy Drummond (d) anchor the rhythm section always blending and never overwhelming the music. Different approach, great results.
