O’s Notes: Harris teams up with a German band in a live performance to deliver some blues. The venue is the Berlin Jazz Festival in 1971. His band mates are Wolfgang Dauner (keyboards), Volker Kriegel (g), Terje Rypdal (g), Neville Whitehead (b) and Robert Wyatt (d). Sugarcane not only sings and screams the blues but also plays a highly energetic electric violin. There are only four songs but they are lengthy. Harris is in rare form on “Sugar Cane’s Got The Blues” followed by a super cover of Horace Silver’s “Song For My Father” and then the bluesy “Where’s My Sunshine”. The stereo separation is excellent but the lower midrange is a little thin.
