O’s Notes: This is the first edition of the SmallsLIVE Living Masters Series dedicated to capturing the performance of living legends. We celebrate bassist Tyler Mitchell playing Sun Ra’s Journey. The extra special accompanying artist is alto saxophonist Marshall Allen who turned 99 on May 25 of this year! He’s still got that free jazz fire. In addition to Sun Ra classic tunes there are a few covers and originals from Mitchell and Allen. “Cosmic Hop” (M. Allen), “Fate In A Pleasant Mood”, “Carefree”, “Velvet”, and “Skippy” are some of the bests.
